This was one of the largest plugin rebuilds we’ve ever undertaken. Unlike many Divi plugins that revolve around custom modules, Divi Carousel Maker works by extending the Divi Builder itself. That unique approach has always been the reason people love using the plugin, but it also made the move to Divi 5 far more involved than a typical compatibility update.
The end result was worth the effort. Divi Carousel Maker keeps the same flexible workflow that existing users are familiar with while taking advantage of everything Divi 5 has to offer, including live Visual Builder support, a redesigned settings experience, and a completely rebuilt carousel engine.

The Same Flexible Carousel Builder You Already Know
We created Divi Carousel Maker years ago as the most unusual Divi plugin ever. Instead of creating dozens of dedicated modules for each type of carousel, we made it possible for you to create ANY type of carousel by simply enabling one setting. The normal Divi modules, rows, or sections become slides, allowing you to build your slides using standard Divi elements. That unique approach is exactly the same in the new Divi 5 version, ensuring everything is as flexible as before.
While working on this release, we spent time exploring Divi 5’s new Group Carousel feature. After using it, it became clear that it serves a very different purpose and is very limited. Divi Carousel Maker continues to offer the exclusive ability to transform literally any existing Divi module, row, section, or layout into carousel slides without changing the way you build your pages. We’re incredibly proud of pioneering this unique approach, and preserving it for Divi 5 was one of the biggest goals.
Live Visual Builder Support
One of the biggest improvements in Divi 5 is the editing experience. In Divi 4, it wasn’t possible to fully preview carousel behavior while working in the Visual Builder. With Divi 5, that’s no longer a limitation.
As you adjust your carousel settings, you can immediately see the results without leaving the builder. This makes it much easier to adjust things like the number of slides, navigation, scrolling behavior, spacing, and responsive settings while you’re designing the page.
NOTE: Slides using the special Library Layouts module for showing sections and rows as slides are not yet rendering as a preview in the builder.
This makes it much easier to fine tune your layouts and see exactly how your carousel will look while you’re designing the page.
Carousel Settings Have Moved
If you’ve been using Divi Carousel Maker in Divi 4, you will remember the dedicated Carousel tab, a fourth settings tab in the Column settings.
The settings panel in Divi 5 does not work well with a 4th tab, so we took this opportunity to move the settings. In Divi 5, instead of a separate Carousel tab, you’ll now find dedicated Carousel option groups within the standard Content tabs. The settings themselves should feel very familiar, but they’re now organized in a way that feels like a natural part of the Divi 5 interface.
We also added a few bonus workflow improvements. Rather than having each carousel option group separate, we combined them all into the Carousel Settings with sub-option groups, making it easy to find anything related to the carousel in one place.
The screenshot below shows a little quick access icon we added to the column. This carousel icon is a shortcut that opens up the carousel settings inside the column. It’s the same as clicking the edit icon on the column, then the carousel settings, and we thought it was a cool thing ot add to save a step.
As a special bonus for power users, you can quickly access the carousel settings from the right-click menu while working in the builder, making it even easier to jump directly to the options you need.
Migrated From Slick To Swiper
While rebuilding Divi Carousel Maker for Divi 5, we also made an important behind-the-scenes change: replacing the old slick.js carousel JavaScript library with swiper.js.
Most users will never notice this change directly, but it gives us a much better foundation for future development. Swiper is actively maintained, includes many modern carousel capabilities, and opens the door to new features that simply weren’t practical for us to try to custom develop before.
Our priority for this release was making sure Divi Carousel Maker had feature parity with Divi 4 and that existing websites could migrate successfully to Divi 5. Now that the hard part is behind us, we’re looking forward to building on this new foundation and expanding the plugin with even more carousel features in future updates.
Compatible With Divi 4 and Divi 5
No matter if you’re already using this plugin on Divi 4, moving over to Divi 5, or just getting started with Divi 5 for the first time, you’ll be glad to know the process is simple. You can use the same file, so there’s nothing tricky to worry about.
Please note that even though Divi 5 is officially released, it is still under active development. Elegant Themes continues to make changes and improvements, which means we may need to release minor updates along the way to maintain full compatibility. All features are already working as expected. If any compatibility issues arise with future Divi 5 updates, we will release fixes or adjustments in follow-up plugin updates, so be sure to keep your plugin updated to the latest version.
Continuing To Use Divi 4
If you’re still using the Divi Carousel Maker plugin with Divi 4, you can update it just like you always have, and everything will keep working as normal. We’ll keep supporting the Divi 4 version with bug fixes when needed. However, all the big new features will only be added to Divi 5 from now on. This helps us avoid doing double the work and keeps our costs down, especially after a tough few years rebuilding everything from scratch.
Installing Fresh On Divi 5
If you’re installing Divi Carousel Maker 3.0.0 or higher for the first time on a Divi 5 website, you’re good to go. This is the easiest way to get started, and you shouldn’t run into any problems. You can jump right in with the new backend settings and start enjoying all the features.
Updating From Divi 4 to Divi 5
If you are updating from Divi 4 to Divi 5, the same plugin file works for both versions. The key difference is that you can now edit carousels in the Divi Builder and see the new backend settings interface in Divi 5.
This update also includes full module migration capability, allowing you to migrate all of our event module settings from Divi 4 to Divi 5. Because Divi 5 is still new and the migration process is highly complex for a plugin of this nature, we strongly recommend testing all migrations on a staging site first. After migrating, please review your settings. We do not expect many issues, but if anything unexpected occurs, please report it, and we will improve the plugin as needed.
The New Backend Settings UI
One thing I’m really excited about in this update is the new backend settings area for Divi 5. We’re bringing this same look and feel to all our plugins, so things will be easier to set up and more consistent no matter which plugin you use. Even though Divi Tabs Maker keeps its settings inside the module itself, you’ll still notice some new pages and features to check out.

This new interface is a huge step forward and will make managing Divi Carousel Maker (and all of our other plugins) much smoother. Again, this is only for Divi 5, while Divi 4 users will continue to see the old interface.

The Hard Work Behind Us
Getting our plugins ready for Divi 5 has been a huge job, and honestly, it took a lot out of us. We spent the past year working hard, putting in long hours and resources to rebuild everything from the ground up. It wasn’t easy, but we did it because we care about the Divi community and want to make sure our plugins keep working well for you, both now and in the future.
New Feature Development
Because we had to focus so much on rebuilding for Divi 5, we didn’t get to add as many new features as we wanted. But don’t worry, we’ve been keeping track of all your ideas and requests, and our list of improvements is ready to go.
Now that Divi 5 is here, I’m looking forward to getting back to adding new features. We have some big ideas in the works, and I can’t wait to share them with you.
