Divi Theme Installation
To avoid any issues during installation it is highly recommended that you use this child theme on a fresh installation of WordPress.
In your WordPress Dashboard, go to ‘Appearance>Themes>Add New’ and click on ‘Upload Theme’.
Select the Divi.zip file, upload it, and activate it.
It is also a good idea for SEO purposes to navigate to ‘Settings>Permalinks’ and set the ‘Common Settings’ to ‘Post name’.
3. Install Divi Paving Child Theme & Layout Pack
Preparation
Ensure you have the Divi Theme installed and activated prior to installing the child theme. After you have the Divi Theme installed and activated, go ahead install your new child theme.
After purchase, download the ‘.zip’ file from your ‘My Account’ page at https://peeayecreative.com (or the marketplace you purchased from) or click the download link in your purchase confirmation email and save the file to your computer. Be sure to unzip the folder that says ‘UNZIPME‘.
Child Theme Installation
Again in your WordPress Dashboard, go to ‘Appearance>Themes>Add New’ and click on ‘Upload Theme’. Locate the ‘.zip’ file on your computer and click ‘Install Now’.
When the install is complete click on ‘Activate’, you will then see the Divi Excavating Child Theme as the active theme in your theme panel.
Layout Pack Installation
The layout pack comes with an installer plugin. In your WordPress Dashboard, go to ‘Plugins>Add New’ and click on ‘Upload Plugin’. Locate the ‘.zip’ file on your computer and click ‘Install Now’.
When the install is complete click on ‘Activate Plugin’.
Demo Import
On the left-hand side, you will see the new menu item called Divi Excavating. Hover over this and click ‘Easy Demo Import’.
Next, you will see options on which items to import. For a new installation, keep everything selected and click ‘Import Demo Content’.
When this is finished, the site will look like the demo site.
4. Customize Anything
Footer Editor
The Divi Excavating child theme comes with a simple footer editor located in the theme customizer. Navigate to ‘Divi>Theme Customizer’ in your WordPress dashboard. When the customizer opens click on ‘Edit Footer Links>Footer Links Editor’ and change the details to your own, and don’t forget to save.
Your site should now look just like the demo at https://demos.peeayecreative.com/divi-excavating, the only thing left to do is replace the text with your own and the placeholder images with your own images.
You may now customize anything on the site including the logo, images, color schemes, fonts, layout, etc. Divi makes it super easy to do all of this, but some the styling you see is from the CSS file.
Changing Your Color Scheme
To edit the CSS, I recommend using Editey. This is a Google Drive add-on that works just like Google Docs, but for code instead. Copy the CSS from ‘Divi>Theme Options>Custom CSS’ and place it into a CSS Editey document. From there, use ‘Edit>find and replace…’ to change your hex color values to match your brand. The two colors you may want to change are the brown #47362c theme color and the red #b72119 accent color.
The rest of the colors are in Divi itself and can be changed easily with the builder. Please see the Divi documentation site for tutorials on how to do this.
