Overview
The Divi Dynamic Content Helper plugin lets you hide custom fields by user role from the WordPress post/page backend editor or our custom fields panel in the Divi Builder. You can ensure custom fields are hidden from roles that shouldn’t see them, while keeping them available for users who need them.
This feature is especially useful when handing off websites to clients or teams. This helps to simplify the editing experience and hide unnecessary features. This can also help protect sensitive data, reduce confusion for non-technical users, and keep the editor clean without changing how fields work on the front end.
How The Settings Work
You can access the settings by going to the WordPress admin area and clicking the Divi Dynamic Content Helper link under the Pee-Aye Creative menu. This brings you to the plugin settings interface. Click the Custom Fields tab on the left sidebar, which has several subtabs. The settings for controlling the user access to custom fields are located in two subtabs, one for the Divi Builder window and one for the backend.
Control Access To Custom Fields In The WordPress Backend
WordPress does not provide a built-in way to restrict access or visibility of custom fields in the backend editor. There is no other solution for this in the WordPress community, which makes this feature extra special.
You can access the settings by going to the WordPress admin area and clicking the Divi Dynamic Content Helper link under the Pee-Aye Creative menu. This brings you to the plugin settings interface. Click the Custom Fields tab on the left sidebar, and then click the Backend Editor subtab.
Simply select which user roles should be allowed to view and edit custom fields in the backend of WordPress posts/pages by selecting the checkboxes. They will be enabled by default to correspond to default WordPress behavior, so you will need to deselect a checkbox for a role to remove its access.
Control Access To Custom Fields In The Divi Builder Window
If you are using our other awesome feature to enable a Custom Fields window in the Divi 5 builder, you may also want to control who has access to it. This is important if you have various roles working on the website and using the Divi Builder.
You can access the settings by going to the WordPress admin area and clicking the Divi Dynamic Content Helper link under the Pee-Aye Creative menu. This brings you to the plugin settings interface. Click the Custom Fields tab on the left sidebar, and then click the Divi Builder Window subtab.
Simply select the checkboxes for the user roles that should be allowed to view and edit custom fields in the Divi Builder. They will all be enabled by default, which is the same way backend fields are handled, so be sure to deselect any role that should not have access.
