Troubleshooting and Freqently Asked Questions for the Divi Taxonomy Helper plugin by Pee Aye Creative

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Solutions to common issues and frequently asked questions to help you troubleshoot any problems you may encounter.

Troubleshooting

If you are facing a technical issue with the Divi Taxonomy Helper, please check the troubleshooting steps listed below. If the outcome of following the steps below points to an issue with our plugin specifically, please send us a support message. When you reach out for support, we will ask about the results of these troubleshooting steps to better understand and resolve the issue.

👉 General Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1: Deactivate All Plugins Except Divi Taxonomy Helper

When troubleshooting an issue with our plugin, it’s essential to determine whether there is a conflict with another plugin. To do this, please deactivate all other plugins on your site, leaving only the Divi Taxonomy Helper active. If deactivating the other plugins resolves the issue, it indicates a conflict with one of them.

To identify which plugin is causing the conflict, start by reactivating each plugin one at a time. After reactivating each plugin, refresh the page to check if the issue still happens. Continue this process until you find the plugin that triggers the problem.

Once you’ve identified the conflicting plugin, please let us know the details so we can provide further assistance.

If the issue is still happening with only our plugin active, it suggests the problem may not be related to a conflict and will require further investigation.

Step 2: Deactivate Our Divi Taxonomy Helper Plugin

Please temporarily deactivate the Divi Taxonomy Helper to confirm whether our plugin is causing the issue. While this may seem counterintuitive, it is an important step to verify if the problem is related to our plugin.

If the issue persists after deactivating our plugin, it suggests that our plugin is not the cause. Conversely, if the problem only occurs when our plugin is active, it indicates that our plugin might be involved and will require further investigation.

🔧 Common Issues

Below is a list of common issues you may encounter when using this plugin. Please review the solutions or explanations provided for any issues that are relevant to your situation.

Dynamic Background Featured Image Not Showing

Problem

Sometimes when adding the images to the taxonomies and then using the dynamic content feature to show the taxonomy image in the background of a section, the image will not show, or it shows the same image for all categories.

Solution

To solve this, go to Divi>Theme Options>Builder>Advanced and enable the Output Styles Inline setting. This will solve the issue!

The checkboxes change selection when I add a new taxonomy.

If you are using the module on a standard page (not using dynamic content in a Theme builder template) and have selected which taxonomy terms to display based on the checkboxes, you may encounter a very unfortunate issue in Divi. To be clear, this is not a bug in our module, but rather a limitation in the core Divi integration with WordPress which we subsequently affected by. This issue will only happen if you are adding new taxonomy terms, and only when their placement in the list in alphabetical order is before the already selected items. It is a bit confusing, but basically when a new taxonomy term is added, it bumps all the checkboxes down one item. In this situation, you will need to remember to update the checkbox selections each time a new taxonomy term is added.

Fortunately, in Divi 5, we have tested this and it no longer happens, which is a big relief.

How does this plugin work?

The plugin adds various settings and features to WordPress and Divi related to taxonomies. It adds WordPress image support for any taxonomy of any post type on your site, adds Dynamic Content support to the Divi Theme Builder so you can use the taxonomy images as featured images, adds a new custom Divi module to display and customize the taxonomies using all the familiar Divi Builder settings, and much more. Please check our full documentation area for more info on all the features.

What is a taxonomy?

In WordPress, a taxonomy serves as a systematic classification system for organizing items, providing a structured way to categorize post types. By default, WordPress includes two primary taxonomies for Posts: Categories and Tags. These taxonomies enable users to label and organize their content effectively. The Divi theme also adds project categories and project tags for its built-in Projects post type. Additionally, if you’re using WooCommerce for e-commerce, you’ll encounter examples of taxonomies such as Product Categories and Product Attributes. These taxonomies play a crucial role in streamlining content management, offering a methodical way to categorize and classify content on your WordPress and Divi website.

Can the Divi Taxonomy Helper display posts filtered by taxonomy?

The Divi Taxonomy Helper is designed to display taxonomy terms, such as categories or tags, in a grid or list format. If you’re looking to display posts filtered by taxonomy, that’s something you would do using the Divi Blog module.
