Why Remove Divi AI?
Divi version 4.22 introduced new Divi AI text and image generation features (this is my affiliate link). Naturally, everyone has mixed opinions about AI in general, but the main feedback from customers centered around the fact that this was enabled by default on client websites. The concern was that clients could use up the free credits (Divi AI allows free uses, but then requires a paid plan), or that websites would get messed up by the client curiously exploring these new AI tools, or worse it could be a violation of privacy. The main point being that these tools should be optional, and so in version 4.22.1 Elegant Themes provided a way to disable the feature. So in this tutorial, I will show you how to disable the Divi AI features for yourself or to avoid clients from using it.

Divi AI Features In The Visual Builder
The Divi AI features automatically appear in the Divi Builder in any input field for text or images. The big blue button can definitely be considered “too much” but the smaller icon seems reasonable. The AI icon appears next to the dynamic content icon in any text input field or textarea field.

How To Disable Divi AI Features
The solution to disable the Divi AI features is actually the same way you would disable any other feature in Divi – the Role Editor! Simply go to the backend of your WordPress dashboard to Divi>Role Editor. Notice the purple tabs at the top. Each of these are the names of WordPress user roles, so this is important to note which tab you are on when disabling the feature.
If you want to remove the Divi AI feature for yourself, I am assuming you are an Administrator, so be sure to disable the setting in that tab.
If you are a freelancer or agency building sites for others, you will need to consider which role your client has in WordPress, and then disable the Divi AI feature for that role, such as Editor.
Want to hide the Divi AI Role Editor setting? We hear you! We have added this feature to Divi Assistant. Now you can completely disable Divi AI, including even removing the setting from the role editor so that no one can ever turn it on or off.
It’s that simple! Now when you refresh or load the Divi Visual Builder, all the AI features will be hidden like before it was released.
How To Completely Disable Divi AI Using Divi Assistant
Here are the simple steps to completely disable Divi AI using our popular Divi Assistant plugin:
- Install and activate the Divi Assistant plugin
- Click on the Utility Helper tab and the Visual Builder subtab
- Enable the setting
I hope that is easy enough for you! 😉
Thank you for this article, it was exactly what I was looking for!
I have quite a bit of experience with Divi and have also created several websites for clients using this system. However, I’ve noticed that clients often make changes to the website themselves, which sometimes breaks things on the site. Since this often takes up a lot of my time, I’m looking for a way to limit what clients can modify in Divi.
Disabling Divi AI seems like a great start, but I was wondering if there are other functionalities within Divi or WordPress that you typically disable to reduce the options clients have for making changes to the website?
Hi Tim!
You can provide the client an editor role access and disable Divi features in the Divi > Role editor option.
