Divi 5 has introduced a brand new Variables system, giving you a powerful way to store global text, colors, images, URLs, and other values that you can dynamically reuse across your entire site. It works a lot like option pages in Advanced Custom Fields Pro (for reference), and it opens up an entirely new workflow for building consistent, scalable websites in Divi.
There’s only one problem: Divi doesn’t include any way to import or export these variables. 🥹
And that’s where the really exciting news comes in…

Divi Assistant Now Supports Importing and Exporting Divi 5 Variables
Over the past few months, we’ve seen dozens of users in the Divi Theme Users Facebook group asking for a way to migrate variables between sites or create reusable template setups. So instead of waiting to see if Elegant Themes will eventually add this, we went ahead and built it into our Divi Assistant plugin.
Divi Assistant already includes the most comprehensive import and export tool available for Divi. You can back up or migrate things like Divi Theme Options, Theme Customizer settings, Global Colors, Presets, Divi Assistant settings, and much more. Adding Divi 5 Variables to this system was the natural next step.
And now, it’s here! With this update, you can export your variables from any site, import them into another site, or build complete starter templates that include all of your global content values.
How It Works Inside Divi Assistant
The process is incredibly simple, and it works just like the rest of the import and export tools in Divi Assistant. I’ll show you two screenshots of the import and export options.
In the first screenshot below, you’ll see the main up/down arrow icon in the Divi Assistant settings interface. Clicking this opens the Import & Export Settings window. Here you can select from a long list of available items to export. To include Divi 5 Variables, simply check the new “Include Global Variables” option and click the “Export Settings” button. Save the file to your computer using whatever name you prefer for reference.
You can export just the variables or combine them with Theme Options, Global Colors, Presets, or any of the other supported settings. Everything is modular, so you can choose exactly what you need.
Global Colors Note: Divi shows Global Colors inside the Global Variables panel in the builder, but they are not technically part of the Variables system in the database, so they are not included in the Global Variables export file. If you want to export Global Colors, simply select the “Include Global Colors” option as well.
Next, go to the other Divi 5 site where Divi Assistant is installed and click the same up/down arrow icon. In the Import & Export Settings window, switch to the “Import” tab. When importing anything, you’ll need to check the “I Understand” box first. After that is selected, the “Choose File” button will appear so you can upload the settings file containing your variables. Once the file is loaded, select the checkboxes for the items you want to import. In the screenshot below, only one checkbox for Import Global Variables appear because that’s the only item that I selected in the export file, but if you had exported additional items, their checkboxes would show here as well. Click the “Import Settings” button, and you’re done!
Why This Feature Matters
Divi 5 Variables are incredibly useful for building faster and maintaining consistency across multiple client sites. They allow you to define things once and reuse them everywhere.
Being able to import and export these values means you can now create a perfect “starter site” base configuration with a master set of variables for your agency, export it in various combinations for different types of client sites, and then import it as many times as you want. Everything stays consistent, and you don’t have to recreate the same settings over and over manually. If you build multiple sites, this can save a lot of time.
Try It in Divi Assistant Today
This update is available now, and it’s completely free for all existing Divi Assistant customers. If you don’t already own Divi Assistant, this is a perfect reason to start using it. It’s our flagship plugin with hundreds of workflow-boosting features that make Divi faster, more consistent, and more enjoyable to build with.
We’re incredibly excited to bring this to the Divi community, especially since so many users have been asking for it. Divi 5 Variables are a big deal, and now you can move them wherever you need with just a few clicks.
