Introduction
Sometimes you need to restrict access to an entire website instead of just a single page. Whether you are building a client site, redesigning a live website, creating a private demo, or preparing for launch, sitewide password protection is one of the easiest ways to keep your work private while still allowing approved visitors access.
In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to password-protect your entire Divi website using the Divi Assistant plugin and a custom password layout and sitewide access control.

Why Password Protect An Entire Website?
WordPress includes a built-in feature to password protect individual pages, but there is no built-in way to password protect your entire website. This creates a problem for developers, freelancers, agencies, and business owners who need to temporarily restrict access during development or review stages.
Many websites go through phases where they should not be publicly accessible yet. For example, you may be redesigning a live site, building a new client website, preparing for launch, creating a staging environment, or sharing a private preview with a client.
Instead of exposing unfinished work publicly, sitewide password protection gives you a simple way to restrict access while still allowing approved visitors to view the website.
How To Password Protect Your Entire Divi Website
The Sitewide Password Protection feature is included in Divi Assistant. This is our flagship plugin with over 150 features, the essential multi-tool for any Divi website.

Enable Sitewide Password In Divi 5
Enable Sitewide Password Protection
After installing Divi Assistant, go to the WordPress dashboard to Pee-Aye Creative > Divi Assistant Maintenance Helper > Password Protection. Enable the main setting to activate password protection.
Set The Site Password
After enabling the main feature, enable the secondary setting called Enable Sitewide Password Protection Mode, which then reveals a password field. Enter the password visitors will use to access the website. You can share this password with clients, reviewers, collaborators, or anyone else who needs temporary access while the site is protected.
Design The Custom Sitewide Password Layout
One of the best parts of this feature is that the sitewide password screen uses the same custom Divi layout system covered in our other tutorial about customizing WordPress password-protected pages.
Create A Custom Password Screen In Divi
To create the sitewide password screen, first create a Divi Library layout in the Divi Library. You can design the layout however you want. The import step is adding our custom Password module to the layout and adjusting the text and design to match your website’s branding. Once your layout is complete, select it in the “Password Protection Layout” setting in Divi Assistant.
A Better Way To Protect Divi Websites During Development
Traditional maintenance pages and temporary development workflows often feel clunky or disconnected from the rest of the website experience. With Divi Assistant, you can quickly restrict access to your entire website while still maintaining a professional and fully branded experience for clients and visitors.
This makes sitewide password protection especially useful for agencies, freelancers, developers, and anyone building Divi websites before launch.
