How To View And Edit Custom Fields Inside The Divi 5 Builder

The Simple Solution: Custom Fields Inside The Builder

That’s exactly what our Divi Dynamic Content Helper plugin solves. Instead of forcing you to exit the builder and hunt through WordPress admin pages, the plugin adds a dedicated Custom Fields panel right inside the familiar Divi Builder. How cool is that!

This allows you to instantly view and edit all custom field values without disrupting your workflow. Everything feels native, and all changes are saved in real time, just like any other builder setting.

This means:

• No more switching between the builder and backend
• Avoid digging through the scary WordPress backend mess
• Convenient, natural workflow staying inside Divi

Why This Matters For Divi 5

There Is No Backend Editor Anymore

In Divi 4, some of you may have preferred to work with the Visual Builder inside the backend content area, the interface you see when you click “Edit” or “Edit Page” and access the backend of a WordPress post or page. If you used the builder there, then it was somewhat convenient to edit custom fields while you were there, or to occasionally pop into the backend editor if you needed to tweak a custom field.

But with Divi 5, that editor option in the backend is gone. You’ll almost never be in the backend editor now, so without a solution like this,  you would need to track down your custom fields in the post editor every time you want to change something.

Divi 5 Keeps You In The Builder More And More

Another factor is the direction Dvii is going. It’s clear that Divi 5 keeps you in the actual builder environment more, with less switching to the backend to access the Theme Builder, set the page status, or navigate between pages. You can now switch WordPress pages directly in the builder, and this feels like a sign of things to come, where more and more of the workflow will be streamlined to avoid switching out of the builder.

By keeping your custom fields right in the builder, you stay focused on your design work while still having full control over the layout where the fields are displayed with dynamic content.

Real-World Benefits

The Divi Custom Fields Helper isn’t just a fancy technical tool, it’s actually a game-changer for how you and your clients work in Divi. Custom fields are powerful tools for your site, and a smart way to build with WordPress and Divi.  However, without an easy way to update them, clients and site admins can get lost in the scary backend. With Divi Custom Fields Helper, editing is intuitive, visual, and accessible directly where you’re already working.

Edit Without Leaving Divi – View and update custom field values from ACF, WordPress, and others coming soon like Pods and Meta Box without exiting the builder and going to the backend.

Avoid The Scary WordPress Backend – The WordPress backend is cluttered and confusing for many clients. By hiding all custom fields from the backend editor based on user role, you can let clients edit them inside the familiar Divi Builder instead.

Stop Switching Back And Forth – Site admins and designers often switch between Divi Builder and backend to update custom fields. Managing all fields inside Divi saves time and keeps your workflow smooth.

Make It Easy For Clients To Update Content – Keep the editing experience simple for clients so they can update exactly what they need without wading through unrelated settings or confusing admin screens.

Protect Access To Sensitive Data – Restrict backend or builder field access by user role, ensuring only authorized users can view or edit important fields.

Whether you’re a freelancer streamlining your projects or an agency building client-friendly websites, these benefits make custom fields in Divi more practical and secure than ever.

Secondary Solution: Restricted Custom Field Access

Sometimes you don’t want certain team members or clients accessing custom fields at all, neither in the backend nor in the builder. Divi Dynamic Content Helper also solves this by letting you restrict access to custom fields based on user role. While we’ll cover backend restrictions in detail in another post, please note that the plugin also provides controls for who can see and use the custom fields panel inside the Divi Builder. Check out the settings screenshot below to see how easy it is to select which user roles have access.
