Moving from Divi 4 to Divi 5 is a big step for anyone using Divi, and I know it can feel a bit overwhelming at first. It’s not just a matter of clicking a button. The migration process can be intimidating, and it requires careful planning and more understanding than many users expect. You’ll want to think about things like whether your plugins will still work, and how your current layouts might look after the switch.
To help make this process clearer and more manageable, we created the Divi Migration Helper. It’s a free plugin designed to walk you through each step, from getting your site ready to understanding what to expect to actually running the migration and finally checking everything over once you’re done. Our goal is to make the whole process as smooth and stress-free as possible for you.

Why Divi 5 Migration Requires A Different Approach
With Divi 4, most updates were incremental and predictable. Divi 5 is different.
Now, you need to think about:
- Whether your content will fully convert
- Which parts of your site will use backward compatibility mode
- How third-party plugins affect the outcome
- Whether it is the right time to migrate
The challenge is not just running the migration. The challenge is understanding what will happen before and after you do.
The Problem With The Default Migration Experience
The built-in Divi migrator provides the core functionality needed to convert your site, but it does not guide you through the process. It puts most of the decisions and steps in your hands.
You’re given a single screen to run the migration, with very little guidance on what to check beforehand, how to prepare, whether your site is compatible, what the results mean, or how to verify everything afterward. That can make the process feel uncertain, especially if your site is a bit more complex or uses third-party plugins.
And honestly, the hardest part for most people is not the migration itself. It’s figuring out what to expect and deciding if now is the right time to make the switch. Our tool helps you decide that.
The screenshot below shows the notice that is added when our plugin is installed, prompting you to use the guided interface instead.
Introducing The Divi Migration Helper
The Divi Migration Helper provides a structured, step-by-step workflow that guides you through the entire migration process.
Instead of treating migration as a single action or figuring things out as you go, you are guided through the entire process in a logical order, with clear insights into compatibility, results, and what to expect at every step.
It does not replace the Divi migrator. It builds on top of it by making the entire experience easier to understand and manage.
The Divi Migration Helper helps you:
- Prepare your site and environment before migration
- Check compatibility across your content and plugins
- Understand what will fully convert and what will use backward compatibility mode (before migrating)
- Run the migration with clear expectations
- Review detailed results by content type
- Verify your site afterward with a thoughtful checklist
Everything is laid out in a simple workflow, so you always know exactly what to do next. Take a look at these screenshots:

Hi Nelson, this is a really helpful breakdown—especially the part about planning ahead before jumping into the migration. A lot of people underestimate how much can break if they rush it. I’m curious though, have you tried building the menu for both desktop and mobile using the new Divi 5 theme yet? That’s one area many users struggle with during the transition. It would be great if you could share your approach or any best practices, since navigation is usually the first thing visitors interact with.
Hi Steve,
The menu is the same in Divi 5 as in Divi 4. The only change would be the new way to make a menu with the new dropdown, link, and loops. But the menu module itself is still the same.
