Use of Graphics
Speaking of graphics, they are an important consideration for a number of reasons. The inclusion of images, graphics, and videos automatically heightens the interest and engagement of your visitors — after all, we primarily process visual information. There’s a reason why the phrase “a picture is worth a thousand words” is such a cliche: for most of us, it’s true.
A website that is heavily image-based may be more likely to draw visitors to return. But even without a primary image base, judicious use of graphics can both keep the interest of your visitor and make the site more attractive.
Some potential graphics that you may want to incorporate in your website include:
- Header image
- Background image
- Company logo design
- Illustrations to accompany text
- Product images
The style of graphics and type of graphics that you use in your website design will depend heavily on the purpose of your site. But it should be noted that internet users not only tend to be drawn to sites and blogs with a high concentration of images, they also are more likely to share those links with others.
This is another example of how functionality and aesthetics work hand in hand.
