Will your plugins be updated for Divi 5?

Absolutely! As a leading 3rd party developer of some of the most popular Divi plugins, we are well-prepared and actively working on rebuilding our plugins for full compatibility with Divi 5.0 when the final release is available.

How will Divi 5 affect Divi Assistant?

All the features of our Divi Assistant plugin are strategically created to be future-proof as much as possible and will remain unaffected by the upcoming release of Divi 5.0. This is a testament to its design and strategic approach.

Currently, phase 1 of our flagship Divi Assistant plugin has been adding as many admin tools and helpful utilities as possible without risking any of those being depreciated or broken in Divi 5.0.  Take notice to the features we have released so far — none of them are dependent on whether it is Divi 4.x or 5.x, which is part of our strategic development plan. As of now, our plugin includes 135 main features that stand resilient against any potential changes. As you can see, we are deliberately avoiding the inclusion of features that might become redundant or obsolete with the advent of Divi 5.0, while adding a huge range of tremendously helpful features now.

Looking ahead, phase 2 of Divi Assistant will be about enhancing existing Divi modules, potentially adding hundreds or thousands of missing settings and features into the Divi Builder and native Divi modules after Divi 5.0 is finalized. The unique strategy here is simple: since our plugin will be modifying existing modules, it can be safely added and removed as needed. We are preparing quite a list of things that will be added by our plugin post Divi 5.0.

How with this affect our "module" related plugins?

We don’t have many “modules” in our collection, and instead focus on upgrading existing modules. However, we do have some such as the Divi Table Of Contents Maker, the Divi Tabs Maker, and the Divi Social Sharing Buttons Maker. These modules will be rebuilt using the new Divi 5.0 architecture. Like native Divi modules, the transitions will be seamless.

What is the current stage of Divi 5 development?

The latest version of the Divi 5.0 developer version is Dev Beta 17, which was released to plugin developers on April 17, 2024.

When will Divi 5 Public Alpha be available?

Our best guess based on conversations with the team would be the end of May or beginning of June 2024. The Public Alpha will have a “Divi 5 Readiness System” which we don’t have details about yet, but is meant to help with the transition process. Keep in mind, this version will be missing features, and would probably only be recommended for new sites that are not very complex.

What will happen to shortcodes?

There’s an unfortunate misconception circulating about shortcodes being phased out in Divi 5, and it needs to be addressed.

Currently, the Divi Builder is based on shortcodes, which you could see for yourself when deactivating the Divi Theme or any Divi module plugin. While Divi’s current implementation relies on shortcodes for its module system, the future iterations of the builder will not be based on them. Instead, Divi 5 will offer a more modern and robust approach, moving away from reliance on shortcodes.

Shortcodes have long been an integral part of WordPress functionality, serving as a versatile tool for extending the capabilities of themes and plugins. It’s essential to recognize that shortcodes will continue to play a significant role in the WordPress ecosystem. They are used by various WordPress plugins and themes to enhance functionality and customize user experiences. As such, shortcodes will remain a fundamental feature of WordPress, even as Divi transitions to a shortcode-independent builder.
